Admissions

Applications for the Fall 2016 cohort are now being accepted.  Choose the "Bioinstrumentation-MEng" degree option when applying for the M.Eng. program.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and we would be able to make a decision regarding your application sooner if you submit your application earlier than the deadlines noted.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • GPA 3.0 minimum for the last two years of undergraduate study
  • GRE required for less than 2 years of work experience

For applicants whose degree is not from an institution where English is the official language, TOEFL or IELTS test results are required.

  • TOEFL score of at least 103 (iBT), 257 (CBT), or 613 (PBT).  Applicants who have already taken the TOEFL should request the Educational Testing Service to send the scores to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign using our institution code number of 1836.

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic exam scores of 7.0 overall and 6.0 in all subsections.  Applicants who have already taken the IELTS should upload their score report forms directly to the online graduate program application when applying.

Applicants with scores lower than the minimum noted for TOEFL or IELTS will be required to take an English as a Second Language Placement Test (EPT) upon arrival at the University. Based on the results, applicants are generally required to enroll in a non-credit "English as a Second Language" course.   For additional information, visit the "English Proficiency Requirement for Admission" page.

Applicants may be exempt from the TOEFL if certain exemption criteria are met.

Remember that the overall strength of the application is considered, not just the TOEFL or IELTS test results.
